Does Country music sound like it's not country anymore?

It seems to me that as time progresses that the country music I grew up to know and love has changed a lot. Growin' up in Texas I had an appreciation for country music ever since I can remember. Now it seems the days of the steel guitar and fiddle are being replaced with teen pop princesses who cant hold a candle to the women of classic country music, along with  different variations of country such as country rap and country rock. This is why i seldom listen to mainstream country today. In stead I found a style of country that most people don't know exist. Texas Country Music.

What is Texas country you ask? Well I personally believe it is the attempt to keep country music alive. It is a blend of traditional sounding country music along with a little outlaw, honky tonkin' lyrics. Instruments usually include an acoustic guitar, steel guitar, drums, harmonica, banjo, and fiddle. Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings are often cited as being the inspiration for Texas country. Although most of the singer/songwriters are from and reside in Texas not all of them do. Texas country is more about the style of music as opposed to the location of the band. Some of my personal favorites include: Randy Rogers Band, Eli Young Band, Jason Boland and The Stragglers, Deryl Dodd, Arron Watson, Kevin Fowler, Robert Earl keen, Charlie Robinson, Roger Creager, Wade Bowen, and Zona Jones. Some of these bands are starting to get there songs out on country radio stations across the U.S. However most play in local honky tonks and dance halls. If your looking for an alternative to what you hear on the radio today this is it my friends. I hope you give it a try. You wont be sorry.

Music changes all the time, rock music from the 80's is completely different than it is today. My mother used to listen to music that her mother said was obscene, but in comparison to the music on the radio, it is suitable for a newborn.

Texas/Red dirt music is where it is at. It has made its way here to Minnesota even. Stoney LaRue is always a favorite and good to see he has a new CD coming out next month. If you haven't checked out the Turnpike Troubadours yet you need to give them a listen. Check out my hub http://hubpages.com/hub/Red-Dirt-Music-An-Alternat Corporate Nashville radio is a joke but I guess they are content with force feeding watered down pop to the masses.
